It's Super Bowl Sunday and we couldn't be more thrilled to cheer on Australian Michael Dickson, punter for the Seahawks! Only one other Australian has a coveted Super Bowl ring and if the Seahawks win, 30 year old Michael would be the first Australian punter to win the Super Bowl.
Michael is acclaimed as the NFL's best punter and in June, signed a $23.25 million, four-year contract extension.
A Sydney native, he is the product of the Sydney Swans Academy but was overlooked at the national and rookie drafts. He then decided to investigate American football and went into the college system in the USA. His Aussie training and professionalism is what made him stand out and within 4 months he had moved to Texas.
In 2018 the Seattle Seahawks traded up to draft him in the fifth round and then seven years on he was offered an extension to his contract which made him the NFL's highest paid punter.
Incredibly inspiring story of an athlete taking a risk, moving overseas and then achieving bigger and better things.
